KPD Coffee is growing in the area of the source of the Nile. Surrounded by the Kagera and Mwisa Rivers, all rainfall from Karagwe is directly feeding the Nile.
Approximately 120.000 of 268.000 ha of the land are cultivated – the rest is still rural forest or game reserves.
Our Karagwe region has a typical pleasant sub-tropical highland climate with a daily average temperature of 26°C.
There are two rainy seasons, a heavy rainy season occurs from March until May and a short one from October until December. It usually rains just in the morning followed by a sunny midday.
We are measuring 1000 mm to 2000 mm rainfall per annum.
The typical Karagwe area can be described as hilly, with deep valleys, escarpments and small lakes. There are volcanic sediments, various types of minerals, high contents of clay and iron and low contents of acidity and phosphorus.
Mainly grass and woodlands like in the savannah and a thick forest.
